oh, Tony Abbott is opposition leader in Australia. The old guy with the glasses in the coffin is our PM from 1996-2007, same party as the present opposition leader. WorkChoices was an incredibly unpopular work contracts law that got soooo many workers offside last election. Abbott is the "mad monk" because he was in training to be a preist a while back. The fat guy is Joe Hockey - opposition treasury spokesman. Useless at the economy I think the rest explains itself!

I don't like Party Political Broadcasts that just spend their time slagging off the other parties. If I had to vote in that election, I wouldn't vote for either of them. I presume as a more civilised nation (*cough*) Australia has a multi-party system, so there must be someone good out there!

hahahaha, it's pretty much 2 party (if you count the lib/nat coalition as one party - pretty much are and have actually merged into the LNP in Queensland) in the house of reps, but the Greens may get Melbourne ;D ;D ;D it's all preferential voting here - Nick Clegg wants to copy our system In the senate it's different - after the election the greens may well hold the balance of power. Right-wing christian group the Family First party has held one seat in this senate term (6yrs, as opposed to reps which is 3), but they will lose it this election. It was a strange thing that got em that seat last time - 2% of the primary vote but preferences got em places! emememememem and that ad was youtube-only how about this guy (joke candidate of course): he actually IS running and has contested the last two or three elections!

yeah! This is the first time since like 1940! Thankyou for your welcome I understand that we were one of few majority governments anyway.... I was standing up for like 13 hours yesterday handing out how to vote cards for the Greens and then scrutineering - that was a hella lot of fun! We have gained our first lower house seat in the seat of Melbourne, and we have gained 4 senate seats to make a total of 9 to come in to play in like June next year. So 10 seats!! ;D Right wing christian party family first's senator steve fielding has lost his seat! BOOHYEAH! He only had 1.4% of the primary vote or something and never deserved to get in. Replacing hims is the SHOCK revival of the right wing christian party the DLP (democratic labor party - split from labor in the 1950s and hasn't been in parliament for like 30 years), who have got in in roughly the same way as fielding. Our lower house is too marginal to call at the moment, and new counts of booths are making seats switch between Labor and Liberal willy-nilly, so we might not know who our PM will be for another week or so yet. How's your hung parliament going? You have a pretty strong coalition I believe?

Err... The Tories have basically taken charge and the Lib Dems have been basically relagated to making tea and coffee and saying "yeah, what he said" at meetings...

polls toppled out former PM and former opposition leader, and even the opposition leader before that!
Australian commentators are saying how great a chance this is for us to reform our democracy! Good! Private Members bills in the lower house and longer question time - about time! The independents are expected to push that through.
Our system is having a MASSIVE shakeup!
